Support Packages
Whether you are a parent of a child already with an Autism diagnosis, waiting for an ASD assessment for diagnosis or have concerns regarding your child not yet reaching expected social, communication or other milestones, I offer behavioural support packages that are tailored to your child's individual needs, steered by their passions and interests and powered by behavioural science (ABA). Covering East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Essex and South London, and where availability allows, other areas of the United Kingdom, our ABA Autism Support Packages can be delivered at your home, your child's nursery or school and in the community setting.
Momentum support packages focus on teaching pivotal skills within play and leisure activities that are preferred by your child, in order to ensure your child is having fun whilst learning. The ABA services provided by Momentum steer services towards cutting-edge and "compassion" oriented ABA. An active commitment to ethical and trauma-informed practice plays a significant part of services, ensuring physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing of all our clients and their families.
I use a variety of assessment tools to gather information regarding what areas of need require support. Together with you, the parents/care givers and your child, where appropriate, we then select vital life skills that will equip your child with important skills. Focussing on developing the domains that will have the most meaningful and long-lasting impact on your child's and your family's everyday life, we aim to prepare them for independence and open doors to future learning. I then provide initial training to you the parents/carers, create and train a therapeutic team around your child and continue delivering ongoing monitoring of your child's and the team's progress.
These life skill areas often include:

Communication skills - vocal (using speech), or non-vocal (AAC methods such as PECS, sign or Proloquo2go) using a Verbal Behaviour approach to communication.
Social skills - learning to play alongside others, learning to play with and cooperate with others which includes: sharing, turn-taking, conversation skills, learning social cues, theory of mind., etc.
Mindfulness and self-regulation - learning to recognise and accept feelings, to regulate the body when things feel uncomfortable or overwhelming, identify important consequences to actions and to behave in ways that align with positive outcomes.
Daily living skills - learning to wash and dress, brush teeth and hair, etc. Learning to make a simple meal or prepare a school bag e.g.
Academic skills - such as learning literacy, numeracy and STEM skills. Support can be provided for learners with Dyslexia.
Play and leisure skills - learning how to engage in and expand interests into new activities that are in line with your child's preferences, these skills closely dovetail with social and communication skills, self-regulation and being able to occupy oneself.

Behavioural supports - often also needed is to focus on adding proactive behavioural supports to prevent and reduce the occurrences of self-injurious behaviours or behaviours that challenge others, that can form a barrier to accessing learning and be a barrier to forming positive relationships.
All strategies and domains within support packages are based upon evidence-based practices. See below for more information regarding some of the evidence-based practices that I use.

About Katya Flatman, BA, MSc, BCBA.
I have been working with autistic children and their families largely since 1997, when I first worked 1:1 with pre-school children with a diagnosis of ASD, teaching important social communication, play, academic and self help skills. I received intensive training whilst on a internship with the Young Autism Project housed at Brunel University. Since then, my desire to continue equipping neurodiverse individuals with valuable life skills has never stopped growing. I currently offer ABA consultation services, supervision of RBT trainees and well as 1:1 services.

I am a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) which means that I am experienced in and skilled at identifying behaviour deficits and excesses using a variety of assessment tools and to train your team to use appropriate evidence based strategies to teach deficit skills and reduce barrier behaviours, all based on the empirical findings of behavioural science (ABA).
